A striking piece of studio pottery with a heavily textured, bark-like surface created through layered slip and glaze. The dark, almost volcanic finish breaks over warm terracotta tones beneath, giving it a strong, organic feel without being overworked.
Nicely thrown with a balanced, classic form—full-bodied with a narrower neck and gently flared rim. The smoother upper section contrasts well with the rougher texture below, keeping it visually grounded.
Likely dating to the 1970s–80s, when this more expressive, tactile style was popular in studio ceramics. There’s a simple incised mark to the base, typical of independent makers, though not one I can confidently attribute.
A decorative piece first and foremost—works well with dried stems or just left to speak for itself.
