A rather unusual bit of 1930s American industrial history. This 150cm McIntosh Biolite Model 3610 began life as an infrared medical generator, made by the McIntosh Electrical Corporation of Chicago. The company had roots stretching back to 1879 and became a major manufacturer of electrotherapy and physiotherapy equipment — some of which now sits in the Smithsonian's collection, National Museum of American History.
We've given this one a new lease of life, carefully converting the original medical apparatus into a striking, fully functional floor lamp while retaining its original industrial character and wonderfully aged metalwork.
