A striking pair of mid-century Continental bronze crane lamps, beautifully modelled and raised upon substantial alabaster and bronze plinth bases.
Far removed from conventional decorative lighting, these sculptural lamps have been designed as complete decorative objects, combining finely cast bronze birds with richly coloured faux tortoiseshell shades, each retaining its original bronze rim. The complementary crane forms are individually modelled rather than simple mirrored castings, creating a far more sophisticated and visually balanced pair.
The dark patinated bronze contrasts beautifully against the pale alabaster, whilst the shades produce a warm amber glow when illuminated, lending the lamps an atmosphere reminiscent of luxury hotel and salon interiors of the period.
Of exceptional weight and quality throughout, with bronze construction extending beyond the visible elements to include the lower plinths and shade mounts, demonstrating a level of craftsmanship rarely encountered in decorative lighting of this type.
Likely Continental, possibly Italian, dating to the third quarter of the 20th century.
Professionally rewired and ready for use.
A remarkable and highly decorative pair with tremendous interior presence.
