Late Victorian Curved-Back Carriage Trunk - c.1890–1910 Horse-Drawn Travel Trunk

£22500

A late 19th to early 20th century carriage trunk, dating to approximately 1890–1910, and purpose-built with a curved back panel designed to sit flush against the rear of a horse-drawn carriage.
The trunk retains its original black leatherette/vulcanised fibre covering, brass lock plate and fittings, and studded reinforcement to the ends, all consistent with external-mounted travel use. The shaped profile is a clear functional detail rather than decorative, allowing the trunk to be securely strapped to a curved carriage body.
Surface wear, abrasions, and losses to the covering are present throughout, particularly to the lid edge and lower sections, commensurate with age and outdoor use. This honest patina adds significant character and speaks to the trunk’s working life rather than detracting from it. Structurally sound and solid, with no evidence of later alterations.
An evocative and highly decorative survivor, ideal for interior storage, retail or film prop use, or as a statement piece in both traditional and industrial settings.
