Large Antique 19thC Marmory Paris Blacksmith Bench Shears – 75cm Heavy Forged Iron - Pair

£17500

A pair of authentic 19th-century French industrial shears (cisailles de layetier / de forge), consisting of an exceptionally large bench-mounted shear and a matching smaller hand shear.

The larger tool measures an impressive 75 cm (29.5 inches) in length. It features a heavy leaf-shaped cutting blade and a handle terminating in a down-turned hook, designed to be dropped into an anvil's hardy hole or a workbench block for maximum cutting leverage.

Markings & Provenance:

• Manufacturer Stamp: The smaller shear is clearly stamped "Marmory Paris", confirming their origin from the renowned premium Parisian industrial tool forge.

• Artisan Stamp: The 75 cm shear is stamped with the artisan/ownership initials "J.R", indicating workshop tracking and personal assignment during its service history.

Condition:

The iron remains structurally sound with intact central pivot bolts. Both pieces exhibit a stable, deep orange-brown oxidization patina built up from decades of workshop storage. The metal surfaces have not been ground, aggressively polished, or clear-coated, preserving the raw texture and historical integrity preferred by collectors.
