An early 19th century Georgian travel trunk, constructed with a traditional domed lid and covered in original hair-on hide (often referred to as pony skin), the trunk displays excellent natural wear and colour variation developed through age and use. The hide is secured with rows of brass studwork, while the structure is reinforced with hand-forged iron straps and corner plates, typical of early travelling luggage.
Designed for use on coaches and wagons, the curved lid helped shed water and prevent heavy stacking during travel.
A highly decorative and practical piece, retaining strong period character and patina throughout.
Circa 1800–1820.
Please expect wear consistant with age and use including some minor loses and a tatty but original interior.
