A lovely little solid walnut collector's chest. Compact and beautifully made, the chest has seven drawers arranged with four smaller drawers above three full-width drawers, each fitted with its original turned wooden knob.
The moulded top and subtly stepped plinth give it a pleasingly architectural feel, while the relatively plain design keeps the focus firmly on the timber and construction.
Originally intended as a practical storage piece, it would have been well suited to a collector, workshop, study or cabinet, with the drawers ideal for specimens, tools, ephemera, jewellery, stationery and all manner of smaller objects.
The walnut has developed a lovely warm colour over the years, with varying tones across the drawer fronts and plenty of honest marks and surface wear from its working life.
A very useful and characterful little piece of antique furniture that would work equally well on a desk, console, shelving unit or simply displayed as an object in its own right.
Age related wear including, surface scratches and some ink stains to the inside of some drawers. one lighter coloured knob.
