A handsome 18th century English oak coffer, probably Welsh, showcasing beautifully hand-carved decoration across the three-panel front with geometric lozenges, scrolling motifs and a continuous carved frieze. Built in solid oak using traditional frame and panel construction, it possesses the honest character and textures that only centuries of use can create.
The generous boarded interior offers excellent practical storage for blankets, linens or household items, making it just as useful today as when it was first made. The restrained provincial carving gives the piece a timeless quality that sits comfortably in both period and contemporary interiors.
The coffer displays light areas of historic woodworm, typical of furniture of this age. This has been thoroughly treated as a precaution, leaving the piece structurally sound and ready for many more years of use. Minor loses and age related splits to the base.
A genuine country-made survivor with warmth, depth of colour and plenty of authentic age-related character.
