Late 19th century Japanese three-panel table screen dating to the Meiji period, finished in black lacquer and decorated with a crane and floral landscape.
Constructed on a lightweight core, most likely papier-mâché, and detailed with mother-of-pearl inlay alongside engraved bone or ivory-effect elements. The scene features cranes amongst lotus and foliage, a classic decorative export motif of the period.
Good antique condition with age-related wear throughout. There are visible losses and cracking to the mother-of-pearl inlay, along with surface wear and craquelure to the lacquer. Structurally sound and displays well. Original hinges retained however later hinges have been added for additional support.
A solid decorative piece with strong visual impact, ideal for shelf, mantel, or cabinet display.
