19th Century Late Qing Elm Side Table - Plant Stand

£17500

A characterful late 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty Elm side table - plant stand featuring a square top raised on four straight legs with a waisted, openwork carved apron.

The pierced decoration shows a stylised cloud/ruyi motif, a classic element of Chinese design associated with harmony and good fortune. The carving is bold and slightly rustic, giving the piece a strong decorative presence.

The surface shows extensive wear consistent with age and use, with minor loses, beautifully dry, timeworn patina throughout. Signs of historic woodworm to the underside, thoroughly treated as a standard precaution.

The construction is solid, with traditional joinery and internal supports visible to the underside.

Ideal as:

•Plant stand

•Vase or sculpture display

•Low side table or accent piece

A genuine, honest piece of Chinese furniture with real age and plenty of character.
